School Blues
School generally sucks, this is a well known fact. However what makes it suck even more is when you have to do an English creative writing internal. This in itself does not suck, however what makes it suck is the fact some schools have opted to let their students type it out on the computer. This is great for them, they have instant access to spell and grammar checkers. However my own school in its infinite wisdom has decided to make students hand-write our writing assesments. This means we do not have access to instant spell and grammar checks. Half the time when you have mad such a mistake you do not know it is wrong and therefore students doing their assesments on word which have the wiggly green and red lines have an edge. What really irritates me about all of this is that I feel our school should be trying to give us an edge, not take it away. Why then is our school choosing to make this assesment that much harder for us especially since spelling and grammar errors can be the difference between a pass and a fail. I find this difficult to comprehend. It makes no sense. It makes the school look bad if higher numbers of students fail compared to other schools so isn't it in the schools best interest to give us that edge? Maybe the powers that be at my school are simply terrified of technology. If thats the case it is essential they are replaced before they cause more harm.
